Egypt has returned to the summit of African women’s volleyball. The Pharaohs’ side dominated Kenya in the final of the 2026 African Nations Championship for women, held at Nairobi’s Kasarani Indoor Arena, sweeping the match three sets to zero (25-22, 25-15, 25-15).
Playing in front of their home crowd, the Malkia Strikers had hoped to defend their crown and extend their reign over the tournament. Yet they never managed to seriously trouble their opponents. The Egyptians took control from the very start of the first set, edging it 25-22, before raising their intensity in the second, which they closed out comfortably 25-15. The third set followed the same pattern, with the Nile side maintaining its grip to complete a clean straight-sets win.
The triumph marks Egypt’s return to the continental throne after a twenty-three-year wait. It stands as the country’s fourth African title in the competition’s history. For the Kenyans, the disappointment matches the weight of expectation that had built around this home final, where they had hoped to celebrate a new crown in front of their own supporters.
Beyond the trophy itself, the win secures Egypt a direct berth at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. Kenya and Cameroon, meanwhile, will join the Pharaohs at the 2027 FIVB Women’s World Championship in Poland.
Earlier in the day, the third-place match saw Cameroon beat Rwanda 3-0 to claim the bronze medal.
