The African Meridian is an independent Pan-African news publication. We report on politics, economy, society, culture, climate, technology and sport across Africa’s 54 countries and the diaspora, in English and in French.
Our mission
Africa’s stories are too often told from elsewhere. The African Meridian exists to report the continent from the inside: what decisions are taken in its capitals, how they affect people’s lives, and what Africans themselves are building. We publish news, explainers and analysis that help readers in Africa and around the world follow the continent with accuracy and context.
What we cover
- Politics: elections, governance, institutions, regional diplomacy and the African Union.
- Economy: budgets, trade, investment, energy, jobs and public finance.
- Society: rights, justice, health, education, gender equality and youth.
- Culture: arts, literature, cinema, music, festivals and heritage.
- Climate: adaptation, environment, water, agriculture and climate finance.
- Technology: digital economy, innovation, telecoms and online rights.
- Sport: African football competitions, athletics and the athletes who represent the continent.
- Diaspora: the communities, voices and networks that link Africa to the world.
How we work
Our journalism follows published editorial standards. We verify facts before publication, give people who are criticised a fair chance to respond, identify our sources wherever possible and correct errors openly. Advertising and sponsored content are kept separate from the newsroom and are always labelled.
